What is a carrier adjustment?

After your package is in the carrier's network, it may be weighed and measured. If the actual weight or dimensions differ from what was declared when you purchased the label, the carrier may charge an adjustment fee. This is standard industry practice for USPS and UPS.

Common causes

  • Package weighs more than declared
  • Dimensions are larger than declared (dimensional weight)
  • Incorrect service level or zone
  • Non-machinable package characteristics

How ShipLucid helps prevent adjustments

ShipLucid uses package presets and item photos to estimate weight and size. You review and confirm these estimates before checkout. We flag low-confidence estimates and ask you to double-check when needed. However, you are ultimately responsible for accurate declarations.

Who pays adjustment fees?

Carrier adjustment charges are billed by the carrier, typically to the payment method on file for your ShipLucid account or the label purchase. ShipLucid may pass through carrier adjustment charges as described in our Terms of Service.

Disputes

If you believe an adjustment was charged in error, contact us with your tracking number and shipment details. We will help you understand the charge and, where appropriate, assist with a carrier dispute. Carriers make final determinations on adjustment validity.

Before you ship

At checkout, you confirm that package information is accurate and understand that materially inaccurate details may result in additional charges. See our Safety page for required confirmations.
